The Whispering Statue
The Whispering Statue, by Carolyn Keene, is a Nancy Drew mystery book that is 179 pages. Nancy's father tells her that he has two cases for her to solve and he introduces her to Mrs. Merriam. Mrs. Merriam tells Bess, George, and Nancy about the mysteries she has for them. The first one Mrs. Merriam tells them is about some books she had that she wanted to sell. She contacted a man named Mr. Basswood, who agreed to help sell the volumes, but she believed that he wasn't giving her all the money he made. The second is about a whispering statue. Mrs. Merriam tells a story about a statue and says that it got stolen. She wanted Nancy to find the statue, figure out who stole it, and find out why it whispered. After their conversation was over, someone knocked on the front and the back door. Also the phone started ringing. When the doors are opened and the phone is answered, two men with black masks are standing at them. On the phone a strange voice says that Mrs. Merriam had better stop talking or they will get hurt. The men at the doors escape and Mrs. Merriam starts to think that her case will be to dangerous for Nancy. This is only the beginning.
